Angra do Heroísmo hosted the fourth European Meeting of the IPLAY Project"
Between the 20th and 23rd of March, the 4th European meeting of the project "I- PLAY: INTERNET ACCESS FOR PARTICIPATION, LEARNING, AND ACTIVE YOUTH took place in Angra do Heroísmo, organized by AJITER.
The meeting was attended by 19 international participants, coming from seven EU countries (Italy, Greece, Belgium, France, Portugal, Lithuania, and Romania) and from a neighboring country, Albania. This project takes place under the European Program “Europe for Citizens” and it aims, through the sharing of good practices and analysis of local realities, to establish a network of organizations and cities and give a voice to rural and peripheral areas and citizens with digital exclusion (migrants, refugees, disabled people, etc.), promoting the debate on the need for equality and quality in Internet access as well as the relevance of this tool in it's future within the European Union, for equality and quality in Internet access as well as the relevance of this tool in it's future within the European Union.
Being the fourth international event, after those held in Italy, Greece and Lithuania, it was subordinated under the specific theme of “Digital Communication”, having a two-day program that included the sharing of good practices on the central theme as also study visits focused on good examples in terms of communication at the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, the local newspaper “Diário Insular”, the local webradio “Rádio Voz dos Açores”, the local cheese farm “Queijo Vaquinha”, as well as a reception by the Angra city Mayorat the City Hall.
To complete the program, it was held a conference on “Digital Communication” at Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade HighSchool, directed to the international participants as well as the students of the school, which featured interventions by Margarida Sodré (from Europe Direct Center), Daniela Guilherme (Public Relationships and Social Networks worker) as well as Rui Caria (Journalist). There was also a chance to get in touch directly with Angra city cultural heritage as well as its typical cuisine and traditions.
This project will also have two more events of this kind, in the coming months of April and May, held in Brussels, Belgium and Tirana, Albania, where the final conference will be held, respectively.
