Key project for sustainable management of textile waste launched in Macaronesia region

On January 30th and 31st, the launch meeting of the TEXTIL project was held in Las Palmas, on the island of Gran Canaria, on the sidelines of the “Ecoislas Forum”, an initiative framed within the INTERREG MAC cooperation program, which unites efforts between the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe and the Ivory Coast, a project in which AJITER is a partner and was present at this launch meeting, represented by its president, Décio Santos.

The project was born with a clear purpose, that is, to face the growing challenge posed by the problem of the growth of textile waste in these regions and to develop sustainable, creative and valuable strategies for its management. The accumulation of this waste represents an environmental and socioeconomic problem and, through international cooperation, the aim is to promote innovative solutions based on the circular economy.

During this first meeting, we defined the roadmap, shared experiences and laid the foundations for joint work that will contribute to a true transformation in the textile sector.

The consortium is composed of the following entities:
