"Moda Azores" took place yesterday in Ponta Delgada

Promoted by AJITER - the Youth Association of Terceira Island, as part of the MODAMAC cooperation project funded by INTERREG (Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands), the first edition of ‘Moda Azores’, an event to exalt, stimulate and value the creativity of young Azoreans, took place yesterday, 10 December, in Ponta Delgada.

After showing around 40 outfits to a packed room, the satisfaction among the organization, designers, models and public was all too evident.

In all, this inaugural edition of ‘Moda Azores’ featured six young designers from the Azores and Madeira.

The catwalk opened with the Azorean creations of Vanessa Esteves (Santa Maria island) with her ‘Vavi’ project and Andreia Fernandes (Terceira island) with her ‘ATLAS azores’ project. The first block culminated with Diana Quintal (Madeira island) and her ‘Dbackyard’ project.

The second part of the evening opened with the Azorean Maria Luísa Gomes (São Miguel Island) with her project ‘Areia Preta’, followed by the Madeiran Henrique Teixeira (Madeira Island) and his project ‘HTDesign’ and the parade ended with the Azorean Ana Margarida Silva (Faial Island) and her project ‘Anna Margarette’.

Since ‘Moda Azores’ is a project that also emphasises jewellery design and accessory creators, there was also the opportunity to visit an exhibition that took place on the sidelines of the fashion show with the presence of several creators, including João Drumonde Ornelas (Terceira Island) with his project ‘Drumonde Ornelas - Agricultura de Design Floral’, Márcia Marrão with her project ‘kami. orikami’ (Terceira island), Manuela Sousa with her project “Ervazeda” or Ourivesaria Teles Momentos com Valor (Terceira island) and its “Be accori” project.

The initiative is part of a project, a component of the project of the same name, which will focus on the design of both garments and accessories and covers all areas of activity potentially relevant to the value chain of this sector, which is intended to be energized by boosting both its economic value and the notoriety of the name ‘Azores’. Among various other initiatives, the aim is to promote an annual fashion show made up of garments by young Azorean designers, who will be joined by young designers from elsewhere.

As has already been said, the event is the result and product of the ‘MODAMAC Made in Macaronesia’ project, which takes place under and is funded by the INTERREG V A Spain-Portugal MAC (Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands) 2014-2020 Cooperation Programme. It follows on from the work carried out and the good practices that exist in the partner regions of Madeira and the Canary Islands, with special emphasis on the dynamics at this level that exist in Madeira.

The ‘Moda Azores’ fashion show was produced by Vedeta Aclamada, LDA and organized by AJITER - Associação Juvenil da Ilha Terceira (Youth Association of Terceira Island), an institution celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, marked by comprehensive and transversal work centered on Terceira Island and replicated on all the islands, with a focus on young people and the development of the region. The event was also attended by several guests, including the Regional Youth Director, Eládio Braga, and the President of AJEM - Madeira's Young Entrepreneurs Association, Nuno Agostinho.
