Seven young people from Terceira, aged between 15 and 22, will participate, through AJITER, in the exchange of the project "ISLANDERS: MANY ISLANDS - ONE COMMUNITY" which will take place in Brussels, Belgium, between July 29 and August 2.

During these days, the participants are making prior preparations for their participation in the initiative, where they will have the opportunity to get to know the reality of the the "capital" of the European Union, getting to know how some of the European institutions, as well as through the planned activities and the interaction between the young people of the five nationalities present (Sweden,Estonia, Greece, Malta and Portugal), to identify common aspects in relation to their territories and the different approaches to resolving the greatest difficulties.

This is a 24-month project that will run until January 2025 and focuses on the use of a methodology based on storytelling as a tool for promoting greater awareness among young people of sustainability, environmental protection and appreciation of the cultures and traditions that mark their identity.

The "Islanders" project in question is an initiative aimed at young people between the ages of  15 and 25 years of age, mainly from European islands, coordinated by the Swedish organization "Traces and Dreams", consortium of "PRISMS" from Malta, "Kimolos Volunteer Team" from Greece, "Muhu Noortekeskuse" from Estonia as well as AJITER - Associação Juvenil da Ilha Terceira as the Portuguese representative.

In practical terms, in the first phase, training was given to multipliers, whether teachers, educators or youth workers who, in turn, will use this knowledge and skills in their work with young people, with a focus on sustainability and natural heritage, as mentioned above.

The project kicked off in Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira in September 2023, also included a face-to-face activity on the Greek island of Kimolos, this being a strategic partnership, taking place within the scope of Key Action 2 in the youth area of the European "Erasmus+" program.
