TEXTIL Project - INTERREG MAC
The TEXTIL project is an initiative under the INTERREG MAC cooperation programme, which brings together the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Ivory Coast, and in which AJITER is a partner.
The project was created with a clear purpose: to address the growing challenge posed by the problem of increasing textile waste in these regions and to develop sustainable, creative and valuable strategies for its management. The accumulation of this waste represents an environmental and socio-economic problem, and through international cooperation, the aim is to promote innovative solutions based on the circular economy.
The problem of textile waste is a growing environmental challenge, especially due to the large volume of discarded clothing and the pollution associated with its production and disposal. In Portugal, around 200,000 tonnes of textile waste are thrown away annually, representing 4% of urban waste. This problem has significant implications, from the occupation of space in landfills to soil and water pollution.
AJITER will continue to promote various initiatives in the near future as part of this ‘TEXTIL’ project, which was created with a clear purpose: to address the growing challenge posed by the problem of increasing textile waste in these regions and to develop sustainable, creative and valuable strategies for its management.
On this page of our website, we will add references to the various initiatives we have already promoted and information about those that are in preparation.
